Sober Gay Adventures was created with the sober LGBTQ community in mind. While searching for sober LGBTQ travel options, I quickly realized how limited the choices were, at least for the kind of experience I was looking for.
There are wonderful conferences and gatherings like GSM and Here Queer Sober, which I highly recommend. But I wanted something different. I was looking for a true vacation experience with other sober LGBTQ people, not days filled with panels and scheduled meetings. I wanted travel that centered on fellowship and accountability, with the flexibility to attend a meeting together if the group felt it was needed.
Traveling in recovery can feel challenging, especially when many people miss the freedom and joy of taking a vacation. That is exactly what Sober Gay Adventures offers. A real vacation, designed with sobriety at the forefront. You are never alone, and there is always support around you. That is why our motto is Fellowship and Accountability All Over the World. About SGA Founder
Hello everyone, my name is Johnny and I am the founder of Sober Gay Adventures. I’m also an alcoholic. I struggled with alcohol since I was 21, but it wasn’t until my 40s that I admitted I had a problem. Now, here I am, happily sober and finally starting the business I have wanted to start for years.
My love of travel began after a trip I took in honor of a friend who passed away. From that very first trip, I caught the travel bug. Since then, I’ve spent months at a time living in different cities, really getting to know the places I was visiting.
Over time, it became a dream of mine to start a travel company. I wanted to bring the joy I get from traveling to others. But the one thing holding me back was alcohol.
When I began taking my sobriety seriously, my original idea of leading wine tours and outings to local gay bars quickly shifted. I refocused on creating experiences for sober LGBTQ travelers, a community that is often overlooked even within the broader LGBTQ world.
I set out to create a safe space for travel, taking classes, registering as an LLC, and booking a trial trip to experience everything our guests would do firsthand. This has become my new passion, and I am excited to share it with all of you. I hope you will join me soon on a Sober LGBTQ Adventure.
